Valentine’s Day Play Dough Chocolate Boxes

Easy Valentine's Day Activity - Playing with Play Dough

An Easy Valentine’s Day Play Dough Activity

Happy Valentine’s Day to you! I hope you’re day is filled with love!

Here is a quick activity in case your littles need some extra distracting today, be it from the sugar or while you get ready for a date night…or even for just a few minutes of self-care (DO IT!).

Play Dough Chocolate Boxes

Step 1: Dough

Get out play dough. 1-3 colors of whatever you have on hand.

Need a fresh batch? Have an extra can of frosting on hand? You have to try this recipe! It works with Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry frostings for sure, but my guess is that you can use whatever you have on hand.

Step 2: Chocolate Box

Print off this FREE chocolate box template, find an empty chocolate box, or quickly draw one on a piece of paper.

Step 3: Add-ons

Set out any tools or extras your little can use to create and decorate their chocolates. Rolling pins, cookie cutters, gems, and sprinkles are all great additions to the set up, though definitely not necessary.

Step 4: Instructions

Tell your kiddos that they get to be chocolatiers for the day and their job is to make a box of delicious chocolates. They can make them, mold them, and decorate them however they like.

If they’re up for a little extra creative thinking, you can have them:

  • Make a special chocolate for each family member or friend
  • Decide what yummy (or yucky!) flavor each play dough chocolate is
  • Imagine each chocolate has a special superpower

Step 5: Ideas to Extend the Activity

My kiddos love this activity. We play it a lot. Over the years, I’ve found a few extra resources to help extend the play dough chocolate box making.

Here are some of our favorites to use before or after!

  • Read Love Monster and the Last Chocolate by Rachel Bright

  • Watch the Love Monster series on HBO Max (Episode 1 is the chocolates episode!)
